creativity, critical thinking, problem solving, teamwork, and improvisation in
a series of on-the-spot team challenges. Individuals sign up and are placed on
teams by the event organizers. At the event, teams move from station to
station, spending five to ten minutes attacking a different challenge at each
station. The event is run by

2010/2011 Appraiser Registration
APPRAISER registration for 2010/2011 is now open. Please help the North
Andover DI program by volunteering to be an appraiser for a team this year! The
typical role of an appraiser is to attend a day of training in early 2010, then
help assess other teams’ performance at the regional tournament in February or
March. It is enormous fun and you will be saving one of our teams from having
to pay a substantial missing-appraiser fee.
Click
here to sign up online.
Appraiser registration closes October 15.
Please email Mike
McFadden or Dave
Ghikas with any questions about the role of an appraiser.

2010/2011 Team Manager Registration
TEAM MANAGER registration for 2010/2011 is now open. Whether you will
have a kid in the program or not, managing a DI team is an incredibly fun and
rewarding experience. Plenty of support and training for team managers are
available both within the
Session scheduling and team commitments vary widely. We have teams that
meet just once a week or every other week, and then there are teams that meet
for hours every week and practically live together during the week or two
leading up to the regional tournament. We have teams that meet in a school
classroom, library, or cafeteria, and then there are teams that meet in someone’s
basement or living room – either at one house consistently or rotating around
the different team members’ houses. The particular scheduling framework and
commitment level that works for you and your team is a decision that you make
with the team after sessions start and everyone has had a chance to become
familiar with each other, with the DI program, and with your chosen challenge
and perception of the work involved.
Rising Stars teams are automatically assigned the 2010/2011 Rising Stars
challenge.
The older teams (3rd-grade and up) have to choose one of five
2010/2011 competitive challenges. Choosing a challenge is a decision that is
best made by your team, as a team, after sessions have begun and the kids have
discussions about all five of the 2010/2011 challenges available. The age group
coordinators will do their best to form teams that are predisposed to a
particular challenge based on the information supplied online by participants
during the registration process, but this is not at all something locked in
stone. Selecting a challenge is a task that falls entirely to your team – to
your team, not to you - and the age group coordinators may
not even communicate to you which challenge it is that your team is predisposed
towards.
The 2010/2011 competitive challenges as well as the Rising Stars
challenge can be previewed here.

Team Manager registration closes October 15.
Please email Mike
McFadden or Dave
Ghikas with any questions about what it takes to be a team manager.
